Alterations & Custom Tailoring By Maya & Company
1559 Forest Ave, Pasadena, CA 91103, United States
I brought in 4 recently bought t-shirts to have the sleeves shortened and slightly taken in. I was wearing a shirt which had the sleeves shortened exactly as I liked it, and exactly as how I requested Maya to duplicate. She immediately asked me to remove my shirt so she could use that shirt as a guide. This was odd, because every other shirt where i have had the sleeves shortened and slightly taken in were each individually measured AND pinned. Maya insisted on using the shirt I had on as a guide for the shirts I was asking her to alternate. I explained to her, more than once, that EACH shirt had to be individually measured and pinned to alternate. She said she would do this. When I picked up the 4 shirts all were done exactly the same even though all shirts were from different manufacturers and thus each fit me differently. Long story short, all 4 shirts were ruined and now unwearable. When I complained, Maya and her assistant chose to escape in their native tongue, deny the shirts were unacceptalbe and demand payment. I threw down some money, and left with my 4 ruined shirts. Thinking back,I should have never left any payment. She ruined my shirts, and she still demanded payment.I would NEVER recommend her tailoring to anyone I knew. In fact, 2 friends wanted her name to take care of their alterations. When I told them what went down, they went looking somewhere else. Over the years, I have had hundreds of items tailored...from suits to shorts to shirts with great results. Clearly, Maya is not as talented as she believes she is and she had zero customer service skills.Beware!!!

By the way, I'm not the type of person that goes out of my way to write a review. But when I got a text message from the company that asked for my feedback, I couldn't resist. I've been a customer at Magic for a year already, but only for dry cleaning. They do a good job, are quick to return the clothes and are affordable... all good signs for when we needed a dress altered... or so I thought. I didn't think twice about it. When it came time to pickup the finished dress, it was stinging to me to hear the clerk, give me my total... $125 ?. Even more frustrating, when I asked for an explanation of how hemming a dress could lead to the exorbitant price stay charged, the explanation left me scratching my head even more... to be expected. There really is no way you can reach justifiable conclusion. For something so far from an expected price, I think Magic could have done a little more beforehand to give us some indication of the work necessary and the cost labor associated with it. After this experience, I certainly have no plans to return for any alterations whatsoever, afraid for what simple tailoring might do to my wallet when it comes time to pick up... and now I'm wondering if I should even return for my regular dry cleaning services.
Mens Wearhouse

TLDR – Not greeted, ignored for other customers, sexism, desired sizes not available. 0/5 stars, DO NOT recommend.I walked into this establishment seeking an XL dress shirt for my partner. He needed this sizing in case anyone is looking for the same one: 36/37 x 16.5-17.5.Regardless, I very frantically search racks, shelves, and displays for at least a shirt that was XL, but they were in low stock or not the color I needed (black/dark). After searching for about 10 minutes and attempting to make eye contact with several associates to see if they could help, I decided to wait by the dressing rooms. I had a few associates look at me as I waited for them to either no longer be busy or ask me if I needed help. Within 5 minutes, two MEN walked in and were IMMEDIATELY offered assistance. The kicker? They were “JUST BROWSING.” I cut the men off before I could answer as I had very clearly been looking for something with no success, assistance, or so much as a greeting from a dang employee. At this point, I was brought two shirts that were not the size/specifications I asked for and had to clarify what I needed. I was offered another further store to try instead, but I didn't get so much as an apology for being ignored. As a woman, I'm offended at the sexism I witnessed. I left empty-handed and absolutely livid. I DO NOT recommend shopping here if this is how they treat women.

Sylivia and her husband (Birkenstock/shoe repair next door) offer the friendly service this neighborhood needs. Great tailoring and quick turnaround time. I initially brought my clothes to another VERY expensive tailor in town and so happy I walked by Green St Cleaners- I'll be a lifetime client. Sylvia gives me her opinion and tells me what can, can not, or should be done and I appreciate that. She was even able to mend a vintage sheepskin fur coat for me. Additionally I've brought a 7yr old pair of Birkenstocks to her husband next door and he did a fantastic job resoling them. Cherry on top of it all- Sylvia always offers my dog a TON of treats when I tote him along.

If you have clothing that you care about, dont take them to this dry cleaners. They recently lost the belt to a NEW cashmere bathrobe AND some PJ bottoms about a year ago. When I complained they told me I never left the item but recall specifically telling the sales person to tag the belt as a second item. I was treated poorly by the sales manager and only after continuing to complain did I receive a refund but they refused to give me my item back citing that they needed to keep the robe for insurance purposes. Items also dont come back clean on certain occasions and Im convinced they just steam iron and rehang unclean clothing. Ive been a loyal customer for 2+ years and have had issues with White House several times. I now would rather drive 2 miles to a dry cleaners that runs ethically than come here.

I moved to Highland Park in 2014 and hopped around sub-par dry cleaning services in the HLP/South Pass/etc. area. It was a disappointing time. And then, I figured Id try this one which is right across the street from Trader Joes. My search for an excellent dry cleaning service ended here. Im very happy with their service. They are fast, detailed, efficient, and their service takes out spots that other places could not take out. Plus, the ladies who work there are incredibly friendly, focused, and bilingual! I get to practice my Spanish when I go there, so I always look forward to going. I really cant think of any negatives to say for this one.

I seldom leave bad reviews, but honestly don't go here! I brought in a few items to be altered and the lady was extremely rude to me, but at the time I felt like it was my fault because I had never had clothing altered before. Not only did she vastly overcharge me ($40 to take in a waist, $25 for a hem, and $80 to replace a zipper) she straight up did not measure correctly and one of the items she altered was still too big and too long. When I came back to complain, they refused to adjust the item or partially reimburse me. I ended up bringing that item and others to Quick n Clean down the street, who were extremely kind, welcoming, understanding, and affordable- literally 1/3 the price for the same exact item I had to have realtered. While I was there I was talking with other customers who said they had a similar experience at Fashion Cleaners. Maybe it was an off day, but I personally will not return to this business.

Update: 5/2023 I just couldn't bring myself back to this location after just all the glitter and unfinished work. It just didn't sit well. They reached out, I'll definitely give them credit for that. I went to another cleaner's. Review coming soon.UPDATE:They reached out, extremely professional and promptly. We're going to work it out. I want to be honest & not leave a bad review without being completely honest with how I felt about my service. Thank you!!!!!!I'm so disappointed with my last order. I received both my freshly pressed clothes full of glitter. Maybe it was washed with other glitter items but it's not what I wanted to open my cleaning up too. Plus I had some altering done and they didn't even completely close the piece I specifically asked for. $50 down the drain, I won't be returning even to fix it. It's my loss but moral of the story check your items before you leave or YouTube how to alter something yourself. I'm sure a few have had a great experience but mine was not.The specks are glitter not great on the camera and I don't want to tussle them around. They sowed the ends together but …… what happened to rest of the seem?

My family has been customers of Bryan's since the 1950s, and they have NEVER lost or damaged one garment in all that time. They're highly professional and always very friendly, and the only reason I can't give them five stars is their (for me) limited hours of operation. Pre-pandemic, their ease of access was stupendous, but now, I've missed their open hours by just minutes many times. Their Saturday hours are particularly frustrating, but in reading others' reviews, I'm very much in the minority in my stance. So I'm having to adjust schedules in order to get there on time, but they're so good, it's worth the effort. Nonetheless, I do wish I could get there during regular business hours (ie 9-5/6, Saturday past 2). I also realize in the grand scale of things, this isn't much of a problem!
